About us

In the summer of 2023, the seed for collaboration was planted. Nearly two years later, here we are: with a joint list, we will participate in the municipal elections in March 2026. We believe in connection and cooperation; this positive attitude and pragmatic thinking will be an asset to Wageningen politics.

Connect Wageningen and Volt strengthen each other. Connect Wageningen brings local knowledge and experience, Volt brings a fresh perspective with European examples. Together, we want to work in the coming years towards an even better Wageningen, where everyone participates and is connected.

About Connect Wageningen

Connect Wageningen is a local party of young people, students, internationals, and newcomers in Wageningen—for all Wageningers. The party was founded in early 2017 and first participated in the municipal elections in Wageningen in March 2018.

The beginning

Connect Wageningen was conceived by Mark Reijerman. The idea was to achieve better representation of citizens in the Wageningen city council. Since 25% of Wageningen’s residents are students and the city hosts over 100 nationalities, Connect Wageningen aims to amplify their voices in the council and improve collaboration between Wageningen University & Research and the municipality. We also want to represent young people and newcomers in Wageningen.

So far

Since the last elections in 2018, we’ve held two seats in the city council to draw more attention to issues affecting young and new Wageningers. In every meeting, we work constructively to shift the municipality’s focus toward better accessibility in Wageningen, more housing for students and starters, and a more inclusive city with better information available in English.

Our goal

To represent new and young Wageningers and engage them in politics to make Wageningen a better place for everyone—by being a political party that is honest, approachable, and visible. Additionally, we want to enjoy our time together in Wageningen.

About Volt Wageningen

Volt Wageningen is part of Volt Netherlands and the pan-European Volt movement. We believe that many challenges—from climate change to housing—don’t stop at city borders. That’s why we link European solutions to local action in Wageningen.

Our city holds a unique position: a city of knowledge, a green heart, and an international community. We want to harness that strength to make Wageningen more sustainable, inclusive, and future-proof. That means investing in clean energy, fair opportunities for everyone, and policies based on facts and collaboration.

Wageningen can show how things can be done differently—by crossing borders, sharing knowledge, and having the courage to look ahead. Together, we take steps toward a sustainable future, for Wageningen and Europe.
